Re: “Musing over Miss Arkansas

You really believe that there is nothing to gain from participating in this hobby? Let me share a story about a past contestant; after graduating from a state university nursing program (partially funded by her Miss Arkansas scholarships-she placed 4th RU in her last year) she interviewed for a highly coveted spot in the neonatal NICU at Children's. There were 32 applicants for that position, many of whom had years of experience to their credit. She gained the position after acing the panel style intense interview (a skill she perfected through pageantry), and I can assure you, her salary has more than compensated for any money she spent on all the interview lessons she underwent preparing for pageant competition.
You may mock pageant contestants all you want. That's fine. It merely shows a complete lack of the 'open-mindedness' and 'inclusiveness' that you so strongly profess to. I suppose all things are to be accepted and included unless they are things you don't understand or want to personally participate in. But let me assure you of one thing; you NEVER want to go up against a former pageant girl in a job interview. I promise you, she'll get the job every single time.
