Re: “Bill Terry, Little Rock lawyer, dies at 94 UPDATE

To add to Robert Johnston's tale, Bill told me that toward the end of WWII there was a change in the height standards for pilots. The reason that he was a side gunner was that he was at that time too tall to be a pilot. He rotated back from the ETO and took pilot training as I understood him He was ready to go into the Pacific theater as a pilot when the A-Bomb was dropped and the war ended. On another subject, the school integration, Bill told me he was a relatively young attorney at the time of the Little Rock school integration crisis. His Mother had become active in the Women's Emergency Committee. At the time of the Central High commemoration of the 50th anniversary, Bill explained to me that a senior partner in the law firm took him aside and told him that there was division in the community and the senior wanted to know if anyone was tried to put Bill at a disadvantage in his career because of the school situation. I thought that was an interesting insight into the legal moves going on at the time.-Larry Carpenter
