  • Hillary hit jobs

It's always been my conviction that if Hillary Clinton could be appointed president, she'd do a bang-up job. Getting elected, however, might prove more difficult.

Re: “A difference

History is likely to move with light speed in concluding that in late 2017 society acted with imprudent haste in calling for the resignations of some accused of sexual harassment. Further, if sexual predators are motivated by power - think Weinstein and Trump - then so are some on the other side, the presumed innocent side - think Kirsten Gillibrand. Few things give a greater sense of power than being able to destroy a person's career. Either way, society should not condone it.

Re: “Trust in Putin

""As to whether I believe it or not," he said, "I'm with our [intelligence] agencies, especially as currently constituted." Whatever that means."

Trump explained his meaning a few days later: He trusts the current people holding the positions formerly held by Brennan, Clapper and Comey, but not Obama's men. Of course, Trump being Trump is off in some la la land, oblivious to the fact that the intelligence is developed by staff, not by the agency head.

Re: “Blaming Obama

Investigator spins his own version of events - no evidence, only his story that he likes because it fits his biases - and calls it an "investigation." Orwell wrote about this kind of mis-use of language. Investigator might want to investigate this.

Re: “Megyn vs. Alex

@ investigator's, " I wonder why Lyons didn't also mention the absurd allegation that Donald Trump would show up for a presidential debate high on drugs."

Well, because Lyons was deconstructing Jones, not the entire world of politics, that's why. It's a column, not a tome.

But now that you mention it, Jones could fill a novel with nonsense like the drug allegation. So far, you have one item for Dean. Seems to me that Lyons got things about right, proportionately: one mention out of a google's worth for Jones, none out of one for Dean.

Re: “The big loser

Investigator of both sides really ought to investigate both sides. It is an easy thing to check out snopes as suggested by Aloysius above, but IOBS did not do even that, instead stopping when s/he found something that s/he liked so why go further? It's called confirmation bias and there's a lot of that going around nowadays.
So we can add this "scandal" to a long list of false HRC scandals, along with Whitewater, Rose Law firm billing records, Bengazi, classified emails, etc. The writer in today's ADG is right: none of these would have been investigated had Hillary or her husband not been running for public office.

Re: “No need to panic

Imagine America if Trump were elected. The field of political discourse - what is fair and what is out of bounds - would be drastically changed, perhaps forever. It would take a long, long time for the country to recover, if ever. The thought chills to the bone. Kinsale would be an easy choice. (Spent a couple of days there a while back, was totally charmed.)

Re: “'Walk in the Woods' a trudge

What I got from the review is: The reviewer did not like the movie because...the movie is not the book. This is Rookie Error #1, covered on Day 1 of Reviewing Movies 101. Movies are movies, books are books. Different media. "2001, a space odyssey," the movie, was far better than the book precisely because it did not try to be the book. My review of the review: not helpful.
