Re: “Catholic High vandal turns himself in

Wayne, Tribou once called me a coward and (according to some other students) ridiculed me in front of a class because I chose not to be in ROTC. This even though I was a quiet straight-A student and National Merit Finalist who had never been in trouble. He also flat-out lied to my mother about a financial issue while she was struggling to raise me by herself. He laughingly ridiculed her in front of his staff because my father refused to pay child support. He ignored borderline sadistic abuse (that I witnessed) of a homosexual student who eventually had to flee to the Little Rock school system to be left alone.

When Central did a similar prank (they do it every year) to us in the mid-nineties, his reaction was so over-the-top that he made us feel like WE had done it. The man had some good qualities, but they were almost universally restricted to the students who were members of the Catholic church. Steve Straessle, by the way, acted so shamefully to me and a few other students on multiple occasions that I won't even do him the service of mentioning the details.

Without question, I feel it's the best high school in the state and that I got a wonderful education there. Some of the teachers are the finest men and women I have ever known. But we need to dial down the sycophantic praise.

Re: “Catholic High vandal turns himself in

I appreciate the humility, Steve, but the alternative would be rather hypocritical.
