Re: “Little Rock Zoo gets 2 new elephants

I am so happy Ellen has 2 friends to spend your days with, I don't want her to be alone and sad....when captivity is all she knows and when animals like elepants have bonded with people it would be very hard to removed that animal from what it has been accustomed to....it could easily put her (Ellen) into more depression, because she lost Mary and then to loss all people contact....I don't think that would have been a good idea, Ellen was raised at LR Zoo, that is her home, the only home she knows and to keep things simple and light and on a happy tone I think this is best for her; and her 2 friends are used to captivity also and used to people, so I think it is a win win for all. The wild is very dangerous you know......thats why its called the Wild....it can be scary out there in the wilderness....there is something to be said about the safety of a Zoo. I have a raccoon and I worry about her not being in the wild but from what I read, life in the wild for raccoons is not a great place.....dogs, hunting, cars and territory fights, that can be very vicious and sometimes deadly.....struggling for food, having babies that you can't feed or like my little Ricky, her momma got killed and she had no one to care for her....so I did and she has a big house outside and a swimmng pool and big limbs to climb on and toys.....I think she is happy and if the day comes when she is mean to me or acting miserable I will have to reconsider but for now, she is safe and she has a family that loves her.
