Re: “Research park authority picks consulting engineer

Re: “Research park authority picks consulting engineer”

It is very clear to me as a member of this community, that the research park that is being proposed to be built has not been researched well. In order to help a community, in order to grow a community, in order to sustain a community, one MUST talk with the community members, the major stakeholders (not the developers, not the chamber of commerce), but the people in which community "development" will effect.
It is my hope and prayer that the planned research park be built in a location that will not cause the unnecessary uprooting of families, their homes, and their ties to their community. This is, in my opinion, not only morally irresponsible, but is a modern day colonization that would serve to rape a predominately Black, mid to low income community of their property, their culture, their identity, their community, their investments, and their human and civil rights. It is my hope that the arrogant, colonialist mindset in the planning of overtaking the middle class and the poor with a wealthy class idea of entitlement would yield to the moral, ethical, and present rights and responsibilities of the belief and understanding that "to whom much is given, much is required" and the realization that Jesus said, "even as you have done unto the least of these, you have also done unto me." Bottom line: it is not ok to build where you are currently planning to build the research park. Too many families will be forced to be bought out through this very unnecessary and unfair process. There are already vacant buildings (Ray Winder Field) and commercial lots (Riverfront Park area) that would not require the displacement of people who have not asked to nor want to be displaced.
