Re: “Disney to ditch Osborne lights

Does the Arkansas Times have anyone proofread these stories? The story makes it sound like the Arkansas Supreme Court wanted the lights.

Re: “With Little Rock's schools in the balance, Superintendent Baker Kurrus faces fearsome choices

Joanimal - if we made those comments about anyone other than a white male we would be labeled a racist. All the children in LRSD have been suffering under the old incompetent management team of the LRSD. All children, black/brown/white/tan/rich/poor will receive a better education and have more opportunities with new management.

Re: “With Little Rock's schools in the balance, Superintendent Baker Kurrus faces fearsome choices

We have let the "educators" run the Little Rock school district into the ground. To put it bluntly, school is a business and the students are the customers. If a business was run as poorly as the LRSD they would have shut their doors years ago. It is time someone with business experience was given the chance to turn the district around. In business, if someone is not doing a good job you replace them with someone who will. If the customer (students) are not receiving a quality product, you make the necessary changes. In the case of LRSD you fire the employees who were not getting the job done and hire someone who will.

I am not one of the "rich" family's the posters keep referring to. I work in a blue collar industry, my wife drives a 10 year old Honda, and we do not vacation in fancy places. We cut every corner financially so we could pay for private schools. For middle school I moved my child into a private school because the public school was unsafe and it has since been restructured. For high school I have moved my child out of private and into Little Rock Central. I much prefer my child go to public school for the range of diversity. But, if Central High did not have an advanced placement program we would have been forced back into private schools.

Perfect example why some parents chose private schools, on the first day of school my child witnessed a drug deal out in the open. I know private schools have drug deals too, but no one is bold enough to do it on the front lawn.

I have a child in LRSD and I am happy with the superintendent change. Mr. Kurrus has the task of trying to turn an ocean taker around and will need several years to make a difference. The school district was not broken over night, and you can not expect a "quick fix"

Re: “Mike Huckabee reports lucrative media business in personal filing

How is the Huckster any different than Bill or Hillary Clinton for figuring out a way to become a millionaire during and after being in public office. He's not. I do not hear anyone bashing Bill and Hillary's lack of religion when the massive income of the Clinton foundation is mentioned. Even when the Clinton foundation takes money from countries that want to harm the US, that seems okay because the Clinton's can do no wrong.

Re: “Inside 'crisis pregnancy centers' — religion, supported by tax dollars, predominates over science

I had to stop reading this article after the first couple of paragraphs. The author makes it sound like the woman had no clue that having unprotected sex could lead to pregnancy. Little Rock Public Schools taught us in elementary school about sex and what the results are. Based on my public school education there are two ways that are 99% effective in avoiding unwanted pregnancy, condom or absence. If you can not afford condoms, that is what Planned Parenthood is for. Unfortunately all you hear about in the press is Planned Parenthood wanting to do is offer abortions after the fact. The only person I know who has had an abortion continues to say she will never get over it. I can not say that is true on not as it is not an option for me (male). Maybe Planned Parenthood should shift their focus and funds to doing more education and less after the fact fixing of the problem a.k.a aboriton. This strategy could also keep them out of the press for harvesting fetus parts for a profit.

Re: “The Republican campaign to gut the Voting Rights Act

I have to show a form of identification at the airport, to get a passport, to get a drivers license. Why should electing our government officials be any different. The only real reason someone would be against showing id to vote would be to allow voter fraud.

Re: “Randolph County clerk indicates she'll take orders from God on same-sex marriage

If she does not want to issue a "marriage" certificate to homosexuals, that is her right. Someone else in the office can sign off. The government let people out of wars for objecting to violence in the 60's, why not let her out of this. So, if I do not want to go to war for religious or ethical reasons that is ok. But, if I do not want to issue a marriage certificate to homosexuals I should be burned at the stake.
