Re: “Obama's realpolitik drone strategy

Nice duck and feign, Gene, but that glancing blow actually caught you square in the nose and you're now too senseless to realize it!

Hugh Sansom rhetorically asks, "Does Gene Lyons have the intellectual capacity..." and the answer, from Lyon's thin, brittle and evasive responses to his commenters and Greenwald's challenges is clearly, no, he does not. Let me take but one of Gene's blundering "points"...

Greenwald and others have said clearly many times that the option is NOT some simple choice between firebombing suspected terrorists and any nearby innocents OR letting these alleged terrorists go their merry bomb-making ways, and that in fact the principles of the US Constitution and our democracy demand that we not act like simple-minded, authoritarian idiots determined to protect our prerogatives at the expense of the rest of everyone else's (as in, their liberty and lives!).

We as a people owe it to what America is suppose to represent--freedom from tyranny--to not overreact to perceived threats and lash out as if individual humans DO NOT MATTER, and yet time and again, that's exactly what we do. And that's all of us, by our very support of our amoral, soft-toned, oh-so-serious establishment and mainstream media.

From Gene's remarks, its also clear that he doesn't really "read" Glenn's columns so much as perhaps peruse them occasionally; Greenwald has, for instance, been very articulate about not only what we shouldn't be doing in our "war on terror", but also how we should be "handling" alleged terrorists such as American citizen al-Awlaki. Gene would apparently be unhappy to learn this doesn't involve firebombs and joysticks.

Re: “Obama's realpolitik drone strategy

Please all, do your self a solid favor and go read Greenwald's as-usual well-reasoned, fairly unassailable response to this commentary (…) to see just what morally shaky ground both Mr. Lyons and Obama are on. The Obama apologists have very little ground to stand on, after their "deeply principled" objections to the behavior and policies of the Bush administration, AND THEY KNOW IT, which results in nearly head-exploding cognitive dissonance like this.
