Re: “Charter schools' hidden agenda

The school i gtaduted from was the first high school on the city. It was also horribly segregated. The Confederate mascot had a name change two years after i started in 2008. Yhe school was located in one of the richest parts of our city not 20 min away from the "hood". My high school used to be the crowning glory of the city. It was that high school. Then "we" cam e along and suddenly the school fell apart. Alumni disappeared. The.gym was bulldozed down after so many years harboring asbestos and no programs remained. It was just learning. Them we broke ground by being the first school in the.city to offer ESL courses. Half our school body were foreigners (african, german, south american, latino....). And this is the age of scantron tests. We went from the best school to teetering on the D level. By the time my class graduated the school was proposed to be shut down. Some speculate they were shutting it down to rebuild it. The reason is still "unclear" but one fact remains. All thos state approved tests were in completet english. Im not too sad for my school because it was failing that was clear.when.i.was dragged there freshmen year kicking and screaming. Im sad for those kids who may have suffered more than i thought because they were expected to grasp one of the most complicated languages in the modern world in a few years. Will charter schools show them the patience and understanding my public school didnt. Because I was forced into a charter school in the 7th grade over parental gullibility and the principals and teachers had free rein. School was canceld whenever he felt like it. Our math teacher barely spoke english. Our science teacher was a former convict who got drink on Listerine during class. And all the principals and assisstants were formet criminals.
