  • Choleric about love in our time

For a guy who watches maybe 250 ballgames a year, I've always taken an interest in what was once called the women's page. After studying the sports section every morning, it's the next thing I turn to.

Re: “Never his fault

I got to this article a bit late to reply to investigator on both sides. I did look up Hillary's well documented support for military adventurism and I'll include this from Foreign Policy.

"I have spoken about Clinton with a handful of military officers, then stationed in Islamabad and Kabul, who were routinely involved in video teleconferences with her as secretary of state. They all described her as being, by far, the best-prepared senior participant in meetings and having read all the memos or briefing books that were sent as preparatory material. They relayed that Clinton has an intimate understanding of military doctrine, Pentagon acronyms, and military planning principles and was not afraid to press senior commanders to clarify the courses of action and the intended end state of any given military intervention."

I would have taken her over Trump any day. Her views on the military are rather beside the point since the article was, from what I can see, an accurate look at how the Republicans obstructed Obama just to make sure he failed, neglected to come up with a plan B, and then failed in a spectacular fashion.

Re: “Same story

I just read about Rudy Guiliani bragging about how insiders in the FBI told him about how they planned on leaking the information. Anyone associating with that guy could hardly be considered unbiased or even sane.

Hillary Clinton may well be corrupt but it has never been demonstrated to me that she is any worse than any of the rest of those people and she is, in my mind, a paragon of moral virtue in comparison with the Republican hacks who have enabled Donald Trump to destabilize American society to the point that he has, first with that Birther lunacy and now with crooked Hillary.

Re: “Bash Bernie

I liked what Bernie had to say and voted for him in my state's primary. It was the self aggrandizing sanctimony of his supporters that put me in the tank for Hillary. Bernie and his fans have a choice. They can have influence in the democratic party and be a queenmaker or they can get absolutely nothing or, worst case, get hunted down by Trump's mobs after the election. From what I can tell, they prefer the latter.

Re: “Ravings from the right

So why is it a problem that somebody besides us is dropping bombs and why not the Russians? They certainly played their part in the fine mess in which we find ourselves when the invaded Afghanistan. Surely we all recall that Al Queda was birthed there, much the same as ISIS was birthed from the de-Baathafication of Iraq. What could possibly make anyone think that we can bomb this problem once and for all out of existence. It will be with us for the forseeable future. We need to grow up and realie that we live in a world with very real very intractable issues.

Re: “Lyons: Trying to take down Hillary

Yes, I have a question, albeit a rhetorical one. How do these guys come to hold high public office?

Re: “Cats and dogs

Someone wiser than myself stated the obvious that dogs have owners and cats have staff. When we've left them with pet sitters for a few days and returned, the dogs are over joyed at our return while the cats are pissed off that we ever left. We had one who would show his displeasure by pooping on the carpet- every time.

Re: “Killer's failure

Myself, my wife, and daughter were given a very pleasant ride around Charleston by Emily and her equally charming horse, Vern. They were both great. From my cursory judgement of her character, I'm not surprised at the stance she took. I'm not surprised by her employer's decision either. Charleston struck us as a nice town.
