Re: “Musing over Miss Arkansas

There is too little entertainment opportunities that focus on the beauty, intelligence, and community service of young women. The Miss Arkansas system promotes the best on the individual and for some this is simply not worth their time. To each their own! I would rather watch these young achievers than the Snookies of the world. Talent and grace is eroding but some still respect the values these girls demonstrate through their service and friendship. Beautiful gowns (and I dare say not a prom dress among them) may carry a high cost, but those gowns are not necessary. I know girls who have won a pageant with the half of a half dress from Dillards. These girls get more from a pageant than just the award money. You go on and watch the Housewife’s of whatever city, and I will watch the girls of the Miss America system. Watch out too- some of them are journalism majors and they will interview well and have the experience of working and talking to people from all walks of life. Plus they will be able to write about things they don’t understand without putting down others who are different. They will do well, CF, and they don’t need your acceptance or your comments.
