See eBay items in person at new stores. So yes, yes, there’s this thing online called eBay where you can auction off or buy anything from high-dollar golf clubs to great-aunt Mable’s yellowed doilies. No news there. But a couple of new local businesses — franchises of the national chain Snappy Auctions — are putting a nice little twist on the process for would-be bidders. People who don’t want to mess with posting their own stuff on eBay can take it to a Snappy Auctions location, and you, the potential buyer, can see online what each location has — then actually go and take a look at an item in person before you commit to bidding on it. If you’ve ever been less than excited about an eBay purchase, you’ll understand how great that is. Plus, if you’re the high bidder, you can bypass shipping charges and just pick the item up. The locations are at 2603 McCain Blvd. in North Little Rock and 5811 Kavanaugh Blvd. in the Heights. Check out their auctions by going to www.snappyauctions.com, clicking the “locations” link, then scrolling down to the Little Rock and North Little Rock listings and clicking on “live auctions.” When I checked last week, some of the more interesting items included two wedding dresses, a pair of Seven jeans and several beer tap handles, including Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale and Dead Guy Ale. Interesting, indeed … It’s going to be a busy next few weeks in the world of retail, so whip out your calendar and get to scribbling: • If you need an excuse other than the food and the vibe to shop the River Market Farmers’ Market, they’re providing one Saturday, Aug. 27: Buy Local Bingo. Get a card for $1 at the information booth, then visit vendors to fill in the squares. First 12 bingos get a prize. • Not EVERYONE is in a mad dash to move ever farther west. RK Collections, the boutique in the Bowman Curve shopping center, is opening a second location Oct. 1 on Kavanaugh in the Heights. Owner Robin Kratzke says the new store, Splurge by RK Collections, will have the same mix as the WLR location — hip, casual clothes for men and women with a heavy emphasis on denim — but will carry different, more upscale lines. • And Open House, whose proprietor, Eric Milner, is even more fun than the merchandise he sells, is heading East Young Man as well. Milner’s got everything except dinnerware and barware marked up to 60 percent off in preparation for the move from the corner of Markham and Chenal (never noticed the store there? That’s why he’s moving) to the Cantrell Heights shopping center, across from Pavilion in the Park. Milner said he’s not sure on dates yet, but “come hell or high water” it’ll be by Oct. 1. Meanwhile, look for Open House behind the Firestone and take advantage of some great bargains. • Even Winterberry Home is moving east — although just a few blocks, in its case, to the former Etcetera building on Kavanaugh near Cantrell late next month. Meanwhile, the store’s having a Mitchell Gold “event” (the furniture company never uses the word “sale,” apparently) with slipcovers marked 20 percent off Sept. 1-10.
