Re: “Judge Steele Hays dies at 86

Finding out Steele's accomplishments do make me appreciate and respect him more than i already do. But the Steele I know is the one who made me feel welcome at St Peter's when i was a newbie door greeter who knew no one. He made it a point to learn my name before others and use it often enough to know he "saw" me. Steele always had a kind word and either a compliment or mention of things i did nobody saw or understood. Always kind, approachable and willing to help with anything be it physical or material. He along with Ms Peggy who always seemed to be by his side truly exemplified the quote from the last supper when Jesus stated, "you shall know mine by how they love each other"
Judge, Chancellor, president Etc. thats all good, but take away all that and he was one damn fine man who did not banter words around like "decency", "honor" or "integrity", they were a part of him as much as breathing, and one who treated the least of society with the same standards as those in higher social circles.
I will miss one damn fine man who made life better for all those lucky enough to enter his sphere, and i feel the world has a bit less kindness, compassion and integrity with his passing
