Re: “Stacy Hurst fires back at criticism of her leadership of the Department of Arkansas Heritage

I bet she had the Department buy flowers for all of those employees.

Re: “Another school shooting probably means easier access to guns

"The Senate will hold a moment of silence at noon ET today."

The Senate has been observing an unending silence since Sandy Hook (or, hell, even Columbine) when it comes to thoughtful and meaningful dialogue on what measures can be taken to reduce, if not eliminate, the scourge of gun violence in this country. Can we not start with banning the ownership of assault weapons by any asshole who wants one?

Re: “Multiple shootings in northern California

Inasmuch as "thoughts and prayers" is really a throwaway comment that signals that the speaker actually intends to do nothing to attempt to curb the rampant gun violence in this country, I respectfully propose that our leaders and policy makers save a little time and breath and merely utter "Ts & Ps" when they respond to the next mass murders that are lurking just around the calendar's corner.

Re: “Tales of sexual harassment in Congress

Look no further than Dennis Hastert and Mark Foley for just a taste of family values hypocrisy from former Republican members of Congress. Compiling a comprehensive list of GOP bad actors would require far more time than I care to spend.

Re: “Eddie Joe Williams to leave state Senate for Trump appointment to Energy Board

Good riddance. Eddie Joe has been nothing more than a lackey for the Chamber of Commerce and business interests at the expense of consumers and regular Arkansans. Glad to be shed of him.

Re: “Judge sets $17.6 million damages in deaths from botched 911 call

After many years of Little Rock's 9-1-1 call center being chronically and dangerously understaffed, this litigation was an impetus in the City finally increasing pay for call taker positions which resulted in an immediate rush of new applicants. Mr. Yang won't ever kiss his wife or hug his son again, and he misses them terribly, but he has some small consolation in knowing that his efforts have made Little Rock's emergency response system somewhat safer for the rest of us.

Re: “Plea-change hearing set for former Judge Boeckmann

In all likelihood he is going to enter a guilty plea to some reduced number of charges. Pretty much a certainty he will be going to prison for some length of time due to the nature of the offenses. While these things can fall apart at the last minute, that is rare and they usually go off as planned, with the defendant entering a guilty plea and then being sentenced at a later date following the preparation of a pre-sentence report by the Probation Department.
