Re: “Open letter to Rep. Bruce Cozart

I would also like to discuss how Bruce Cozart, the Chairman of Education, doesnt care one bit about education. I know this because he stood in court with his son a few months ago to block my efforts to place our children in the number one school in Arkansas (Haas Hall) and to prevent me from accepting my full ride scholarship into the engineering program at the U of A. They successfully killed our opportunities at a top-notch education and ticket out of poverty. All so that his son, a man with a documented history of drug abuse that admitted to being verbally abusive in court and refuses to pay more than 40% of the child support he should be paying- wouldnt have to pickup the kids on his weekends a little bit further away than they are now.

I think its also important to mention that Bruce Cozart thinks its hilarious to refer to his bi-racial family members as niglets. It does not surprise me that he made any of the statements you mention above. I was a member of this family for almost seven years and the level of racism and hypocrisy that exists in that one household has been enough to damage our lives permanently.

Re: “How the 2017 Arkansas legislature made life worse for you

Bruce Cozart should not be allowed to have any say in the education of children (or adults ) in our state. He does not value or appreciate the need for education whatsoever.

I can say this with absolute conviction as he stood in court with his son, against me, just a few weeks ago, when I requested to relocate with the three children I share with his oldest son. He directly supported his son's efforts to keep our children out of Haas Hall, the number one school in Arkansas (an opportunity we were graciously given, and one that we will not have again -as there are thousands of names on the waiting list all the way through the year 2028).

He also directly supported his son in forcing me to choose between having custody of my children (of which I currently have full, primary, physical custody) or accepting a $29,000 scholarship to attend the U of A Engineering school where I was accepted. An opportunity that, in two years, would place me in the job market at a starting salary which is twice the combined amount that their Dad and I have ever made in any previous year. He is seeking full-custody of our children after he refused to work with me independently to make a clearer visitation schedule to accommodate our move, and to remove a stipulation in our agreement that mentioned Lake Hamilton School District as their school. I am unable to attend classes online as I have spent the previous two years taking online classes to earn my associates degree. Either we are present for classes in August or the opportunities are going to expire.

They have willingly waited until the absolute last day to respond to motions, refused to meet for mediation sessions in a timely manner, and done every thing possible to impede the process and further keep us far beyond the expiration date of our opportunities.

All because they didn't really like the idea of living 3 hours away from children that will soon be old enough to drive themselves.

Think about that the next time you see him make a quote like the one he made in 2014:

"On teaching our kids to read and write and do their math and all the other things they need to know to survive in today's world, well it's not all the teachers or the schools fault. The parents are as much at fault as anyone. When a child is taught the things they need to be taught at home and then go to school to learn it's a better learning environment, and if the parent makes sure they're doing their best then they will do better. A lot has to do with the surroundings that they have to deal with each day. It's hard to get ever child on the same page at the same time, but I believe that our teachers do a great job at trying to."

I suppose Bruce's standards only apply to other people and not his own family.

To support his son, a man that previously failed court-ordered drug tests, admitted to striking his seven year old son across the face and verbally abusing him under oath, and who lied to Social Security Disability for almost three years about having custody of his children so he could collect approximately $20,000 in SSDI that was not due to him (while he refused to pay more than $450 total per month for all three children's support), when all I am trying to do is get my kids (and myself) a high quality education and a better quality of life.. Well, he must believe with all of his heart that education is a worthless endeavor.

Re: “Battle over future of education in Arkansas far from over, lawmakers say

I think it's extremely hypocritical for Bruce Cozart to be the chairman of Arkansas' Education Committee when he stood in court with me today and supported his son's attempt to block me (the mother of his grandchildren) from relocating to NW Arkansas with his grandchildren to seek higher education. I have been accepted into the U of A's Engineering school with a full scholarship that will enable me to obtain a degree in Computer Forensic's and earn a substantially higher salary than I am receiving now. As well as the fact that his grandchildren have the opportunity to attend Haas Hall (the number one school in the state). Not to mention the fact that his son refuses to pay more than $450 a month for our three children. I don't want to be in poverty. I don't want to rely on Arkids or Medicaid. I don't even want to rely on child support. I graduated with a 3.9 with my associates degree last month- all while being a single parent and running my own business. I want a higher education and I want my children to have a better education than they are getting now. I do not like to put my personal information out here like this, but I am angry and I think Arkansans should know about this. That instead of allowing his own grandchildren to have a better education and to get out of poverty- he is supporting his son's efforts to not only block this opportunity but to attempt to take the children away from their mother for doing so. If he doesn't even care about the education and poverty of his own grandchildren- do you really think he cares about yours?
