Re: “Meanwhile, in Puerto Rico

As a native Arkansan who has lived in Puerto Rico until 6 days after hurricane Maria, I am glad people still care to report on the tragedy. However I do not believe its as politically motivated as many believe and taking sides isnt helping anyone. Prepa is a highly corrupt & inadequately run government agency that hasnt maintained the power system in years. We lost power monthly but still paid triple what we did in Arkansas. The entire PR government is so shockingly corrupt that Im not at all surprised the island is still suffering. We saw huge 18-wheelers filling up ritzy condo generators at night to avoid detection because hospitals were supposed to be the #1 priority. When we asked who ordered the diesel they told us the PR equivalent of the FBI were giving the orders now... accepting bribes from wealthy citizens instead of focusing on the people who really need help. We know of several mayors who were giving preferential treatment to those who supportted their party and denying services (including electricity) to those that did not. Its outrageous whats going on and were scared of what our reality will be when we return in early Jan... I think the shame & disgrace should span all political parties and the hurricane only shed light on what us that lived there already knew.
