Songs of Broadway The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra celebrates the Broadway musical with two performances of “Broadway a la Carte” in its Pops, Live series on Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, at Robinson Center Music Hall. Favorite local singer Kristi Tingle is among the featured performers in the show, which also will include singers Shaleah Adkisson, Joseph Dellger, Dianne Penning and Daniel Reichard. The ASO will play music from such shows as “Evita,” “South Pacific” and “Hello Dolly.” Showtimes both nights are 8 p.m. and tickets range from $15 to $53. The ASO returns to the Robinson Center stage on Sunday, March 20, with its “Cool Concert for Kids” starting at 3 p.m. Comedienne Heidi Joyce returns with an all-new program discussing fugues, rounds and more, and the audience gets to participate. Riverboat jazz “Trinity Presents …” celebrates the golden age of Dixieland music with the RiverCity Ramblers Sunday, March 20, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Evergreen and Mississippi streets. Showtime is 6 p.m. and free tickets can reserved at 377-1161. The Ramblers, known for a riverboat jazz style of performance, will perform such classics as “St. Louis Blues,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Waitin’ for the Robert E. Lee,” “Tiger Rag,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Former ambassador signs her book Meet Nancy Soderberg, the former U.S. ambassador to the United States and President Clinton’s White House security advisor, when she appears Friday, March 18, at the Clinton Museum Store to sign her book “The Superpower Myth: The Use and Misuse of American Might.” Soderberg will be at the store, 610 Present Clinton Ave., from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Get tough So, are you tough enough? The annual Toughman and Toughwoman contests are Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, at the Statehouse Convention Center, but you’re welcome to watch if you don’t want to get into the roughhousing. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the fights begin at 8 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $17 for reserved seating and $25 for ringside. Bella show The Italian Trade Commission and local fashion boutique Barbara/Jean Ltd. will present “Italia: Life in ‘I’ Style,” a fashion show of Italian designer wear at the Arkansas Arts Center on Saturday, March 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday’s event will feature a Milan style runway show, an Italian cocktail buffet and Italian wine tasting. Guests may also tour the exhibit “In Stabiano: Exploring the Seaside Villas of the Roman Elite,” which showcases art objects and archeological artifacts found in four excavated villas. Tickets are $100 per person and include food and wine. Call 372-4000. For model train lovers The Great American Train Show, which claims to be the nation’s largest touring model train exhibition, visits Little Rock on Saturday and Sunday on its 60-city tour of the United States. The two-decades-old show, which began in a small fireman’s hall in Chicago as a way to promote the hobby of model railroading to the general public, now features local and national sellers, hobby shops and train specialists. The show will be at the Dodge Hall of Industry at the State Fairgrounds 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is $8 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Fairgrounds parking is $3.
