Re: “bin Laden death photo won't be released

Releasing the photos would be unseemly and unbecoming to us. Like putting his head on a pike at London Bridge. Even the British outgrew that kind of behavior.

Re: “Get the smelling salts — Mike Ross votes right

Please do not deign to respond to Susan. She believes that most of the Founding Fathers were ministers of the Gospel, and has said so in public. I reckon she believes this because Mike Huckabee said something to that same effect. This is her kind of source for "facts." I think Witherspoon was a clergyman, perhaps one other Founding Father. Otherwise, more Huckafact, such as Obama's Mau Mau heritage. Please, Lord, spare us from this worst kind of ignorance, the well-meant.

Re: “Get the smelling salts — Mike Ross votes right

The bloom went off the NPR rose for me a few years ago when they fired Bob Edwards for no apparent reason, except that he wasn't cool enough for the generation of idiots then and still running the place. However, to call that outfit liberal these days is just boxarox stupid.

The closest thing they've got to a liberal anymore is Diane Rehm, and compared to, say, Eric Sevareid, who used to tell me what to think five nights a week on the most mainstream of mainstream, CBS News with Walter by God Cronkite, she's a borderline fascist.

Firing Juan Williams was exactly the right thing to do, because he's boring and untalented. The generation of idiots in charge, however, fired him for other reasons, reasons that said more about them than about him, and they still don't get it.

Whatever. Cowards who run from a James O'Keefe video have got it coming to them.

Re: “Nothing natural about congressional redistricting

The requirement that Congressional districts be composed of contiguous geography is not in the Constitution. It is by federal statute and in fact has only been a permanent part of the landscape (so to speak) since 1967, well within living memory for some of us.

Humans being human, and politicians even more so, one of the consequences of contiguity has been districts with weird shapes.
Perhaps, in this age of greater mobility and widespread electronic communication, we should rethink the whole idea.

Re: “Where is the Arkansas attorney general? UPDATE

The consumer advocate quoted somewhat mischaracterizes the bill, as I read it. It would permit the need for power of X megawatts to be determined in a separate proceeding (in which consumer advocates had better be welcome), but it would not necessarily prevent contesting the particular plant as the best means of meeting that need in the certification proceeding.

Caveat, eternal vigilance and all that of course.

Re: “Altes' Bible bill to be changed

"These people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with lips, but their heart is far from me." Matthew 15:8.

Re: “More free speech for judges UPDATE

Publish all contributions to judicial candidates, and have automatic recusal if a contributor is a party to a case before the judge. Won't cure the disease, but it would decrease the symptoms.
