  • Lyons: NRA makes bad situation worse

Of all the outrages to decency and common sense during National Rifle Association president Wayne LaPierre's bizarre press conference following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, the most offensive may have been his depiction of America as a dark hell haunted by homicidal maniacs.

Re: “A tale of two cities: Bentonville and LR react to planned student walkouts Wednesday

I wonder, if 3,000 parents lined up to check their kids out, and then 17 minutes later 3,000 parents came back to check their kids in, if BPS would get the fucking picture?

Re: “Hillary Clinton's big night

Thanks Max. I'm so stoked that a true, hard core neoliberal with corporate bona fides is charging hard through the primaries to become the next president.

But, I wonder who will win the Republican primary?

Re: “Nate Bell's wife now full-time lobbyist for governor UPDATE

You ain't afeard'a callin'em, are ye?

The best operatives of the Republican Party take notes on how to engage opponents from the worst online trolls, by all appearances of Bell's demeanor.

Re: “UPDATE: Gov. Hutchinson firm on allowing gay discrimination bill to become law

After living here for 13 years, as a straight, white, married man with children, I cannot wait to get out of this backwoods shitheap of a state. How embarrassing it is to be considered an Arkansan, no offense to all of the very fine people I've met. It's just that you're outnumbered to the degree that you're irrelevant to the perception people hold of this state.

Re: “The Duggar clan: Their exception proves rule of growing acceptance of gay people

If the show should be canceled, I would think it not too much of an inconvenience; Branson is right up the road, and I think that they could be quite the draw. Branson is an area hyper-saturated with those who likely share their viewpoints, with money to spend, and time to spend it.

And all it takes is a metal shed, a marquis, and some minimum wage elderly folks with flashlights.

Re: “The Big Gray Apple open line. Plus, could a gay couple get a manger in Fayetteville?

Geez, Max, could you please quit politicizing Christmas? Christmas is all about Jesus, and the tone of the season is to represent his tone towards mankind. As far as I know, Jesus never said anything about being nice to sinners. /s

Re: “Voices from Little Rock fast food workers at today's protest for higher wages

"Well, why don't they better themselves?" is the question I always hear. To which I respond, "How many MBAs do you want to see working the drive-through at McD's?"

It's really such an ignorant, short-sighted proposition that tens-of-millions of people could all better themselves collectively through education or "hard work".

It's a numbers game; there are only so many decent-paying job openings out there. Just because Clarence times 20 million gets a degree does not mean that 20 million higher-paying jobs appear. That line of thought underlies a complete misunderstanding of the commoditizing forces at work in the labor market today. If eduction = higher pay, then Americans today would be more broadly sharing the wealth of the nation, since they are both more educated and work longer hours, collectively, than at any other time in American history.

And, all of the above is disregarding the fact that, in order to (almost) financially survive, we require people to give up their dignity and an hour's worth of time for seven. dollars. and. twenty. five. cents. Wake the f7c3 up, people.
