New shows on the Art Night loop

“Congruencias,” paintings by El Dorado artists Jorge and Maria Botti Villegas, opens Friday, June 10, at the Historic Arkansas Museum, with the museum’s Second Friday Art Night reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The reception, one of several on Friday night downtown, will feature wine, hors d’oeuvres and jazz by Gerald Johnson. The artists, originally from Argentina, will exhibit 23 works, 11 by Maria Villegas in acrylic and 12 by Jorge Villegas using gel pens, graphite and color pencils. Some of their work will be for sale. HAM is at 200 E. Third St. “Out of the Woods: The Turned Wood Art of Ron Ufkes” is the Second Friday Art Night presentation at River Market Artspace, 301 President Clinton Ave. Ufkes, who moved to Arkansas in 1997, uses storm-downed trees and other found wood in his work. The reception will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; the show runs through July 2. Tapestry and quilt-maker Phyllis Stephens and emerging artist Bisa Butler will be on hand from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Hearne Fine Art’s “Conversation” event for Second Friday Art Night, and will lecture at noon June 11. Stephens’ exhibit, “Journey of a Piece Maker,” runs through July 5. Hearne is at 500 President Clinton Ave. The art night trolley shuttle runs in continuous loop to these galleries and other Second Friday participants, including the Clinton Museum Store, 610 Clinton Ave., which will feature walking sticks by Joe R. Rawls of Rison; the Cox Creative Center at 120 Commerce St., where Dr. Mary Ann Stafford will be the featured artist; Oval Gallery at 201 W. Capitol and Amy Howard Richmond Fine Art at 201 E. Markham St. The 14th annual Mid-Southern Watercolorists Open Membership Exhibition opens with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Cantrell Gallery, 8206 Cantrell Road. Works by more than 60 artists will be included in the regional show. The show runs through July. Cantrell Gallery is now open until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
