The problem doesn't have to do with weather or weekend or cost. Look at festivals in other similar cities to identify the real issue. Birmingham's Sloss Fest was this past weekend. Tickets were around $100-$150. Scattered thunderstorms in the forecast and it poured. Many of the same acts that played at this year's Riverfest were in the lineup and they had some local bands plan in the earlier time slots. There was ONE MAJOR difference. A REAL HEADLINER. Widespread Panic. A band that is known for headlining big-time summer music festivals that has a HUGE following with fans that travel all over the country to see them. If you want to have a summer music festival, bring in a headliner that has a big enough following to sell tickets. People travel to see bands they care about. The Riverfest lineup the past 2 years couldn't convince many to travel from their houses down the street.
