Re: “Dickson Street

For those who remember the "real" Dickson Street the current strip is a disgusting shadow of its former funky self. "They" didn't "Keep Fayettevile Funky," and with a $6 million overpriced parking garage and the prospect of an enlarged Walmart Art Center, there will be more rich people, higher prices and lots more cars mixing with the drunk pedestrians. It's time to leave. My friend Dubie says "Put the Dick back in Dickson Street," and while I agree with the sentiment I think there's not enough Viagra in the world for that dysfunctional business district to ever get it up again.

Re: “The grocery store wine bill: Whiskey sellers protest UPDATE

I have no sympathy for the "mom and pop" Arkansas liquor store owners. They are as protectionist and anti-competitive and sleazy about it as NFL team owners are. They deserve to go extinct. It's long overdue. They're not quite yet on life support but the prognosis is a long, slow decline toward certain death.

Re: “The grocery store wine bill: Whiskey sellers protest UPDATE

If I recall the Arkansas constitutional term limits amendment correctly, Asa will not be governor in 8 years anyway.

Re: “Texas finds a fraudulent voter. But wait for it ....

There's a lot more to the story. She was apparently not aware that she was not allowed to vote. She grew up in the US and says she didn't understand that a green card holder did not have the right to vote.

Eight years. I hope she has an attorney who knows what s/he is doing. That seems like an 8th amendment violation for such an inconsequential "crime."

Besides, voting in Texas in pointless. The outcomes are all pre-ordained anyway. If you're a Republican you win, unless you represent an inner city district in which case the Democrat will win. Period. Gerrymandering has been raised to a penultimate art in the Lone Star State.

Re: “Critique: UA school voucher study 'garbage in garbage out'

The UA board of trustees is garbage in, garbage out, personified.

They approved the creation (science) of that bogus academic department. It's the education profession's equivalent to Creation Science. I'm disgusted that higher ed. accreditation agencies haven't stripped the UA's accreditation for suborning such magical unrealism as is routinely pumped out of that shop. It's just as sweaty as any factory where Walmart buys its "clothing" from.

UA should be the laughingstock of legitimate universities around the country for having perpetrated a major "roll back" of academic standards to facilitate the "low price" of the increasingly devalued UA, its degree programs, and its overall reputation.

Re: “Governor backs Plant Board on new pesticide rules

They'll regulate pesticides (using that term with great skepticism) only when one powerful ag group wants to regulate some other group of growers when it impacts the more-powerful group's bottom line. When pesticides threaten the health and safety of anyone NOT represented on the board majority of the Farm Bureau, regulation is the worst thing that could ever be done. Even when people are dying. Like my daddy used to tell me, the only thing worse than corporations killing people with poison is regulating corporations to prevent them from killing people. And he was straight-faced serious when he said that. He coulda been in state gubmint. oh wait, he was... :-( And he was one of the more sane ones at the time. T'ain't sayin' a whole heckuva lot, though. Never saw a bigger, fatter bunch of squawkin' whinin' babies in one room in my life as I did the Arkansas General Ass-simile in session. Welcome to Little Rock, now please go back home to whatever backwater backwoods you corrupt sleazebags oozed out of.

Re: “State Rep. Micah Neal pleads guilty to taking kickbacks from government grants

Praise god even when you're counting your ill-gotten gains. 'Cause even when nobody else is looking, you better believe SHE is, and you're gonna need her help get your ass out of jam at some point. Or to get jam out of...
