Re: “Johnny Key moves to weaken or end agreement with Little Rock teachers union

Before the AR Dept of Ed takeover in January, 2015, 6 LRSD schools were deemed as failing, based on the state standardized tests used at that time. SIX. Now, there are 16. During these past 4 years, it was supposed to be the responsibility of the ADE to help the district academically. Instead, they have focused on fiscal issues and have continually allowed more charter schools to spring up all over the District. Many of the charters have also scored poorly on the state testing but they are never dealt with. They have also changed the standardized tests used in the state 3 or 4 times. So comparing the scores each year gives no consistent data.

This takeover has always been about turning the district into a charter school Mecca so that certain people can profit off of students. This has never been about making the district better.

Re: “Contrasts between LR mayoral candidates emerge at forum on homelessness

It would be good to have a mayor who doesnt feel obligated to go along with everything the Chamber wants. Theres something suspicious about a group who gets $300,000 a year but doesnt have to account for what they spend it on.

From what I can tell, they use it to support their pet projects, while harming other aspects of our city. They actively campaigned to have the school district taken over by the state, and they support the proliferation of charter schools all over Little Rock. What if theyd taken the time and money to invest in our public schools instead? And lets not forget that Randy Zooks wife, Diane, is on the State Board of Education. Theres nothing on the up & up about any of this.

Re: “LR Central's Stacy McAdoo is Arkansas teacher of the year

Death...I missed that. Thanks. Surely someone wasnt meaning that against the teacher. Hopefully, it was about the Waltons.

Re: “Mark Martin off to Taiwan

This is a great example of all the hypocritical Republicans who live in AR. This guy is almost out of office; theres no good reason for him to take this trip, yet there he goes. God help our state because the majority of our voters certainly have not.
