Re: “Legislators file bill to return local control to Little Rock School District

Its so good to have legislators like this group! I hope & pray we will see them around for a long time (& more will join them). They know exactly what Asa/Waltons are up to. I am fearful that there are too many spineless Republicans in our legislature who will vote against this though. They need their paychecks from the Waltons, NRA, etc. and cant cast any votes that go against what their masters tell them to do. Our state desperately needs to wake up to the damage being done to public schools so that these few can make a profit off of kids. It is disgusting.

Re: “Voucher creep in program for students with disabilities

My god, this man hates public schools. Its awful to watch our schools funds be given away. What happens when the private school sends them back to public school school? Does that money come back with them? Of course not. Happens with charter schools all the time.

Re: “State board revokes Covenant Keepers charter, clears another charter to take over

What a mess. Did Diane Zook & crew go on & on about these sweet babies and how this charter school failed them? Did she moan & groan about how this cant keep happening and something must be done? Ha, I am kidding folks. She is more than happy to let charters run amuck.

And just think, this charter school took taxpayer money and that money has basically been flushed down the toilet. No matter if more charters take in these students or schools in LRSD take in students, no one will get that per-pupil-expenditure back to help cover the costs associated with the influx of students. The State Board knew this charter was on shaky ground but ignored it because they hate to say no to charters.

Re: “State Board rejects Haas Hall report; moves to shift students at failing Covenant Keepers

Oh surely the mighty Haas Hall is operating fairly in order to get those great test scores?!? And the Lighthouse Charter School failing academically but the Board allows them to continue. Our state is in deep trouble allowing these charter schools to take taxpayers money and not hold them to the same standards as traditional public schools. It is interesting to watch Republicans at work: they used to be FOR local control, but so much now that their pockets get lined. They used to be FOR being fiscally responsible, but not so much now since its their super-wealthy donors getting the huge tax breaks. They used to claim they were FOR personal responsibility, but not so much when its their friends/donors who are being irresponsible.

Re: “Surprise: Add missing money to woes of problem-plagued charter school once run by Valerie Tatum

Wont it be fun to watch the ADE State Board meeting? I bet well get to watch Diane Zook express her deep love & concern for these charter school babies and say that their school must stay open. As Max points out, accountability for schools only applies to LRSD & Pine Bluff. This school should have closed long ago. And Haas Hallyea, that lottery system they use for admission...funny how it benefits them but leaves out those kids that might actually require some teaching. When will Arkansas realize these charter schools are not here for our kids. They are here for our $$$.

Re: “Dozens of schools, including those run by state school chief, have ignored law by punishing truants with out-of-school suspension

I love coming here because several of you totally get what Asa/Key/Waltons are up to. Yes, Little Rock & much of the state has tremendous poverty, which greatly impacts our kids getting to school. I cant even count the number of kids Ive known that stayed home or came very late due to lack of transportation. If they miss the bus, they are usually out of luck. Not everyone has the luxury of having a car or of having at least one parent or adult at home to bring them in the mornings.

And the report card gradessuch a sham! Penalize schools for tardies and absenteeism. Ridiculous, but it certainly comes in handy when youre in the business of making money off of kids by creating more & more charter schools. Who cares if the charters are failing, though...AR is determined to ruin public schools.
