Re: “State Board of Education discusses, but doesn't act, on Little Rock School District

Thanks for the summary. Reith seems like such a good hearted person who really wants what's best for students & communities. Much appreciation to Barth, as well, for his continued willingness to try & support local control of LRSD. Anything Zook has to say is garbage--my assumption is that she never intends to see LRSD under local control & is ready to make it into a land of charters. Unfortunately, she & her buddies outnumber Reith & Barth.

The community does not trust Johnny Key & Asa. They have no reason to. Key can't be bothered to interact with families in the district and never indicates that he truly cares about our kids. It's sad that the Board goes along with this. There are many in the LRSD who work hard every single day to do what's best for kids. They deserve heaps of praise and all of the credit for improvements. Rarely do we see Key acknowledge good things in LRSD.

Re: “No Taxation Without Representation group forms for Little Rock school tax vote UPDATE

People need to remember that many Little Rock area businesses that are "for" this millage vote were many of the same local businesses who were also "for" the state takeover of LRSD. These groups did not show support of the district when it was under local control, so their change of heart is questionable. So many people want to build a high school in Southwest LR but so many of us are truly concerned that we are not being told the whole truth. Give our district back and then let's see all these groups continue to show support.

Re: “Award planned for five former Little Rock School Board members

While it's odd that Greg Adams was left out, I think it's most appropriate that Fisken not be honored. She wrote a letter to the State Education Board, while she sat on the LRSD school board, and encouraged and asked for the state to take over the district. We all know what happened next...While she's not solely responsible for the takeover, she certainly wanted it to happen and was working with others in the city and state who wanted it to happen. She undermined the district she claimed to represent and her fellow board members.

Re: “Istanbul is a palate pleaser

This is really one of the best restaurants in Little Rock. I've never had a bad meal here & love how quiet and cozy it is. The owner is so nice & the servers always are as well.

Re: “Ever check your kid's backpack?

I guess Trump's first question can't be about his wife, unless it could be multiple choice. Would be curious to know if there's a copy of the Hillary version actually filled out (before this afternoon, that is).

Re: “Lawmakers consider delivering blow to school funding

Maxifer, you are exactly correct about Cozart--he presented HB 1733 that tried to give away our public schools to charters. He does the bidding of Assa & appears to care absolutely nothing about what's best for our kids & our state. I feel truly frightened about what Assa & his cronies are going to do to our state if people don't stand up to them.

Re: “Kurrus confirms job cuts; talks of future in Little Rock schools; continues charter questions

Cutting the special education department seems particularly cruel, considering how many students in LRSD are in special education. The end of the year is always extremely busy as preparations are made for these students for the following year. It takes many people to handle all the federal and state requirements of special education and taking away staff who understand special education is not wise.

It's also especially disturbing to know that many staff who received letters are hard workers doing the best they can with limited resources, but no one bothered to dig a little deeper. Maybe if they had, they would know that the treatment of special education by past superintendents plays a large roll in the problems that are lingering.
