Re: “VA nurses picket over working conditions

Ok VA nurses are on a TEAM nursing approach. One RN, one LPN and a CNA to assist 8 patients. The RN to assess all 8, do paperwork, do all IVP and scope of practice. LPN to do skilled nursing (Tube feeds, caths etc), pill medicines and assist RN. CNA to do VSs, Blood Sugars, Turn and Position, bed baths, feed and toilet and assist nurses. Now THAT sounds rough right? Well, in the PRIVATE sector? We, REGISTERED NURSES have 6 patients, NO LPN, NO CNA unless we are lucky, do our OWN Blood sugars, our OWN Feeding, our OWN toileting, our OWN MEDS, our OWN charting and we are told to SMILE while we are yelled at by the families and our bosses for not doing it fast enough! I have NO RETIREMENT PLAN! I have a lousy health plan and I have been harassed and threatened by my employer for filing FMLA for getting Pneumonia x2 (forced to work 70-80 hr work weeks by my boss because I don't have EEOC wont help because I cant prove it with a recording...which is illegal in our state).

Nurses, Ive worked in Unions before. There are times and places for everything. Right here and company could use a Union. What you got going? Be thankful! Id take your job in a heartbeat! You can HAVE MINE IN EXCHANGE!
