Re: “Another bike/car crash on Cantrell

The alternative route to the one behind Dillards HQ is an extension of the medical mile which is on the North side of Cantrell. The section by episcopal is not the only problem, like mudturtle mentioned, it is from downtown to just before Junior Deputy. If you'd like to keep us off the road then why would you not be all for making the connection from the medical mile?

And the statement that the route behind Dillards would be a homeless shelter. Seriously? Homeless people don't sleep on the big dam bridge now, do they? So why would they do it here? There would not be shelter from the weather in any sense nor do I think a big priority for homeless is a river front view. Get off that crap.

People need to start realizing that well designed cities are good for all citizens and commuters: vehicles, cyclists, walkers, runners, young, old, adults, and children. If you are going to cater to just one group (vehicles) and bitch when a city spends money on others (the other seven in my list) then your city will fail in being a good community. It is very close minded to not try to cater to all citizens.

Everyone pays taxes in some form or another and it's not just on new vehicles.

Also, please get off the tight pants affliction you people have. Do you sit there and talk crap about football players, baseball players, cowboys, etc... Just like any activity you wear what is comfortable for what you are doing. You aren't going to shoot hoops in jeans and you aren't going to ride 20 miles in them either. You aren't going to ride a horse in baggy clothes and you aren't going to ride 20 miles in them either.

Re: “Broadway Bridge design winners announced

Except for 120,000 average daily traffic that crosses the I-30 bridge. Or the 11,000 average daily traffic that crosses the Main Street Bridge. Or the 21,000 that cross the Broadway Bridge. So 152,000 average is "never seen by ANYBODY"?

Re: “Engineer: Replace the Broadway Bridge

lawdog, you must not have read the above article about why this experienced guy says we need a new one. And your arguement that we are already iconic cause we have 6 bridges in 1/2 mile of each other, really? Google maps, Pittsburgh has 7 in that same distance, Chicago has 10. The number of bridges does not make an icon.

Along those lines, 2 of those 6 bridges are normal looking and they are turds. The other 3 that are interesting to look at are railroad bridges. The Broadway Bridge is an interesting bridge and thats because someone put some thougth into it, but that was 70 years (40 ears ago for the above arch).

I also seached that bridge mentioned above, they had 2 design options a normal bridge for est. $66 mil or the one chosen (image above) $80 mil. Put forth a little extra thought and money and make something that can inspire children and maybe help make this city something people might remember when they leave after visiting for things such as the Little Rock Marathon or Race for the Cure. I gaurantee you that the Main Street bridge or I30 bridge do not help us.

Re: “Bridge design unveiled

It would be nice to see renderings of the approaches on both sides. It's kind of obvious what a bridge on a bridge will look like. We have a perfect example of that on the Juntion Bridge and this looks exactly like that one (minus blue paint).

Re: “Blockbusted

I thought the Pharaohs exhibit was a neat thing though I have seen many exhibits on Egyptian culture. My main question is why was it here for so long? A year and a half seems like a long time for an exhibit. Then it takes three months (maybe an exaggeration) to set up another exhibit. So I might visit the museum once every two years. It seems like it would be better to have multiple exhibits a year. If you didn't see the Pharaohs exhibit in the first 6 months you probably weren't going to go.
