Re: “County officials blindsided by Lake Maumelle watershed amendment

Denton is my JP. I'm not a landowner in the watershed, I do drink the water. Unlike several of the commenters, I actually read the amendment. Perhaps there is some confusion over what the word "moratorium" means, but the amendment appears to put the brakes on any significant development, while creating a process to come up with a permanent plan with input from everyone affected instead of a select few. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. Villines' promises to not participate in the process sound like a spoiled child.

My knee-jerk reaction is to be on the side of water quality protection, ostensibly CAW's goal. However, I lost any faith in the purity of that organization's motives when I read that they were going to pay $500,000 to the Chair of the Pulaski County Planning Commission for an easement on his land, located in the watershed. This "easement" apparently exempted him from the proposed ordinance, while imposing fewer restrictions on his land than the ordinance would impose on every other landowner. He was the only person offered this sweetheart deal. I think taking a step back and examining this deal more closely makes a lot of sense. Something smells, and it's not just the manure Mr. Vogelpohl is spreading in the watershed.

Re: “Circuit judge race finishes in the mud

Hout took me to lunch when the campaign began to ask for my support. He explained how he is very interested in rehabilitation. He placed strong emphasis on his deep respect for the members of the bar who, like myself, handle criminal defense as part of their practice. Then I saw and heard his campaign materials. He appears to be running for prosecuting attorney, not juvenile judge. And he has shown that he believes that defendants should not be entitled to a defense. He has also shown that he does not respect anyone who would dare to defend someone that he has decided is guilty. I didn't know Mr. Hout in law school, but he appears to have skipped a few classes. His deep bias against people accused of committing a crime is evident. He is not fit to be a judge. I am obviously biased, because he has attacked my profession. I am likely more so because he lied to my face in an effort to get my vote, and my money.

Re: “Nelson to announce gas tax plans Tuesday

I just received a mailing from the Nancy Todd campaign asking me to correct my voter registration, because my application had some missing information. The attached voter registration app had an incorrect birthdate and address and was signed for me by someone else. I have my doubts about our current S of S, but I am sure about the fraud going on with the professional petition pushers.

Re: “Listen to audio from surgeon general arrest

Cops are very cognizant of where the camera points. They know when off camera all they have to do is say 'Stop resisting" if they want to later justify anything they do. Mr. Thompson had the wherewithal to contradict them as they kept making statements trying to mischaracterize the offscreen action. One claims Thompson is spitting on him, and Thompson (calmly compared to how I would likely have reacted) makes clear he is spitting the grass out of his mouth. And Thompson doesn't seem very drunk to me. And he wasn't in public. Weaver v. State pretty well makes it clear that in your own home, or on your private property is not "in public" whether someone else can see you or not. The only person disorderly here was the officer.

Re: “Former officer gets 42 months

This was a federal case. The forty-two months could be reduced by about for good time, but the feds do not have parole. He will serve more time than the pedophile.

Re: “New ownership at Pizza D'Action

This appears to be a ruse designed to end a boycott of the business due to the practices of the owner. However, the new "owners" have reportedly stated that they are not allowed to make decisions regarding re-hiring employees recently fired, and cannot lift the "ban" on numerous customers who objected.

Re: “Today's question: Leniency for Lu Hardin?

The judge has the option of requiring Hardin to pay for the cost of his incarceration. That should take care of that argument....
