Re: “Three more indicted for abuse in juvenile center in Batesville

I worked in corrections for many years and it's a tough job. You deal with cutters, ones that pull out their hair, disobey (certain officials), steal, lie, kill and do not care about anything other than their prison "mate". Then briefly kissing and hugging their loved ones on visitation day!!!! That's sickening! These same inmates are institutionalized and keep coming back repeatedly. Some people don't want to be reformed, they like living in this environment ITS FREE! It takes a very good officer to handle these people and be a mentor rather than mistreating them. We are all human. The corruption starts from the HIGHER UP staff. From the warden all the way to the preacher (at the Newport facility he's paying his price for his sexual conduct), again this is an example of how inmates can manipulate officers and other staff & staff manipulating inmates, no matter what their age may be.
By no means am I taking up for the officers at WRJDC. But some where in their chain of command they may have witnessed this type of behavior from their superiors. Some people are just heartless and need to be on the hoe squad themselves.
These teen's did NOT deserve the treatment they got, these officers were trained in how to handle juveniles, NOT adult prisoners. I'm sure juveniles are somewhat had to handle, but be a friend to them and you could possibly be the one that makes that positive change in their life forever or get them the help they need. These kids are locked up and often do not have one single family member that comes to visit. How would you feel? Just forgotten. These young ones minds have not fully matured. Yes they need to pay the time for the crime. Look around you and see how many children & teens have a structured life this day and time? Most are left raising themselves while their parents have to work 2-3 jobs to support the family or many parents are single and some of those kids are left being raised by a family member with no discipline. This is where the government has failed us as parents. One job at $15.00 an hour can't support a single parent. That pay is few and far between. If you live in a small town, you have to commute to the next largest town. As someone mentioned above due to the government and DHS parents can't discipline their children without them butting their nose in our business. OUR rights have been taken away, so therefore we can't discipline our kids, our kids get with the wrong kids or with the wrong adults they look up to and therefore the behavior problems start often in that type of situation. These kids deserve love
