Re: “Prayers ended in Van Buren school

In the past I've considered myself as just about as liberal as the most liberal of AT posters, but I've got to jump in front of the individual being lambasted on this one. The fictitious person's image emerging from the posts here is not this person!!

I know her as a complicated, loving (and, yes) religiously conservative person leading a complicated life in Van Buren, Arkansas. I've seen her spiritual life help her survive abuse and discrimination that she's faced in her life-time. I imagine that she wants to share her experience of acceptance and relief with her students. Folks, she really, really, really is one of the good guys in caring for students . . . It's just that she "speaks" with a certain native religious language of the area, and that language happens to have a heavy christian accent.

I'm hoping that the situation will evolve with everyone's (including the individual's) understanding that it is the choice to speak in religious language that is at fault and must change. The caring intention and dedication of the individual that is speaking the language is amazing, and is truly "award-winning". Thanks for listening . . . I love to read all you regulars!
