Re: “Taxman swoops on Dizzy's

Don't let this deter you from going. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great, and the service has always been good; and now, they're apparently in good standing which I guess is a plus.

Re: “Obit policy flap

Oh, just to be clear, those 2 obituaries were in The Guard.

Re: “Obit policy flap

I agree with TexMexLez. Also, I think it is rather important to note that there have been 2 obituaries in the past 10 years that have included a "special friend" in the survivor portion. Whether or not these obituaries were paid for or not is unclear; however, each of them consisted of over a 100 words while this particular obituary (the one Mr. James was omitted from) consisted of fewer than 100 words. What's a few more words?

Survivors of deceased relatives are already grief stricken and spending several thousands of dollars on a proper funeral, is it really moral and humane to require them to also shell out $85 to be recognized in their partner's obituary? A fee which is imposed on them solely because they never married their partner (for whatever reason)?

This is not okay, especially when the addition of Mr. James and other unmarried partners like him (be they gay or straight) would be a matter of adding approximately 4 to 5 words. I believe a 10 year, loving partnership deserves 4 or 5 free words at the very least. It's small price to pay to honor the survivors of someone who was loved so dearly and lost too early.
