Re: “I-30 widening could end River Rail transport east of interstate

"Please"! All this crying about the poor river rail being cut off and killing expansion of the system! Shed another tear for the revitalization of downtown being placed in jeopardy.

Expansion has been talked about for years and will never happen. Any serious planner would push for a toll system, lite rail to the surrounding cities, and increased bus service versus the twice a day shuttles.

And stop calling it "River Rail". The "trolley" is a run in circles "carnival ride" that should have never been built and along with the rarely used bike lanes contributes to downtown traffic congestion.

I am also old enough to remember the other "so called" downtown revitalization projects that fell flat on their face. So, while I hope this latest attempt is successful in the long term, I don't see downtown Little Rock becoming so popular that highway expansion would have any real impact.

I agree the Highway department should consider the impact to downtown Little Rock. However, the bigger picture and realistic traffic requirements cannot be ignored.

Re: “TLC cancels '19 Kids and Counting,' the Duggar reality show, after sex abuse reporting

I never saw the appeal but not a fan of any reality show for that matter.

What's troubling is many people do not get the Duggar couple have very serious mental issues. Your "popping out" kids endlessly despite knowing this could kill you based on your medical condition.

Then, you subject your kids and family to becoming part of a national "freak show".

Surprising the incidents of molestation are the only problems that have come to light. But my guess is most if not all of their kids have mental issues from the environment they were forced to grow up in.

Re: “The banned old flag

I am a Civil War Living Historian and amateur historian so have spent a lot of time studying the use and origin of Confederate Flags.

First, the use of the confederate flag or "poorly hidden versions" of the confederate flag should not be flown or used as official government symbols. The argument in regards to heritage is "BS". If heritage is the case, why is South Carolina not flying the Union Jack given it used to be a British Colony?

Second, the modern use of the confederate flag, would probably make most pro-confederate ancestors "turn in their graves". Not only is the wrong flag being "worshiped", (The confederate flag that is so popular is a battle flag not the Confederate National flag), most people who display the battle flag don't know the first thing about the history or heritage they claim to support.

I do worry about the "knee jerk" reaction including putting pressure on private citizens and vendors to stop selling or displaying the flag. The pressure to erase confederate history entirely is extremely alarming.

In the case of Kerry McCoy, she has every right to sell the confederate flag without being harnessed. If you don't like it, don't buy from her.

Re: “Arkansas conservatives react to same-sex marriage decision

Still amazes me that these "right wing kooks" scream about rights taken away but have pushed their agenda to do the same. What's worse is they are basing their argument on a book "written by man" based on beliefs of that time.

The bible still offers relevant guidance today but it was not written by a God. Certainly most of it's content should not be taken "literary".

One good sign out of this is the American People are slowly moving away from conservative and outdated religious beliefs. Obviously the South is moving much slower but I think we will get there.

Re: “Seven reasons why closing late-night clubs early is a bad idea for Little Rock

For a city that claims they are moving forward with reinventing themselves, especially the downtown area, they sure go out of there way to shoot themselves in the foot.

I think part of the problem is you still have a large number of people in this area with a "bible belt" mentality who are not keen on the nightlife scene.

Re: “Is Tom Cotton too extreme? Too robotic? Or the next big thing in Arkansas politics?

Not a fan of either Cotton or Pryor.

Cotton is way too conservative and out of touch. Plus his affiliation with "extreme" conservative groups is very troubling. It also seems like there is no genuine personality there. Has the persona of an automaton who regurgitates the conservative doctrine.

Pryor I feel has sold out based on fear of political survival. He has embraced conservative views including the installation of the keystone pipeline and pro NRA agendas. To me this is a dangerous sign of personal weakness.

For me it will come down to voting for the lessor of two evils, Pryor in this case.

Re: “Tom Cotton: "Mark Pryor thinks that faith is something that only happens on Sunday mornings."

"You know you're in Arkansas when candidates start fighting over who is a better Christian".

Not a fan of either "Tough as an Old Boot" Pryor or "I look manly in my army fatigues" Cotton. But what logic Cotton used to connect Pryor's religious convictions with the Hobby Lobby supreme court ruling is beyond me.

Then again, the logic some Supreme Court members used to reach the Hobby Lobby decision also eludes me.
