Re: “Newly rigged charter school panel sets meets for Walton-powered agenda

you can say Little Rock schools are disadvantaged, suck, suffer from a legacy of racism, whatever you want to call it...they don't get the job done.

It's always something, 'if it weren't for charter schools', if we could get more funding, if we just had another year to improve, if our superintendent wasn't a fraud, etc. How many decades of excuses are necessary? Kids in Little Rock deserve an option to try something that might be better, they can't wait around another 30 years for the Little Rock school board or the city to get their act together. Many Little Rock school teachers have told me that uncaring and terrible parenting is the main problem with schools. So, if you are a parent that is motivated and your child is motivated, you should have an option to 'skim the cream' off your zoned school and go to someplace that is going to help your child. There should be an option other than $15k a year private school or a very lacking education at LRSD.

Re: “Newly rigged charter school panel sets meets for Walton-powered agenda

One of my children will start at a charter school this week. They graduate students that are very independent and well prepared for college. It's not for everybody, but if your child desires a smaller, academically rigorous environment, it's a great option. I live in northwest Arkansas, so charter schools aren't really a divisive issue here because the public schools are also a good option. The public school districts have even opened their own charters for students that desire that environment.

The problem that people have with charter schools in Little Rock is that they don't have space for everyone. People want to leave Little Rock public school because for the most part...they suck. That's the problem, not charter schools. We moved away from Little Rock to avoid the what to do about middle school problem that many parents that care about their children's education face.

Fix the public schools and no one will care about charter schools, but everyone knows, that's not going to happen in Little Rock.
