Re: “The case for cleaning up judicial elections

These proposed reforms sound amazing. I hope they go through.

Re: “Another NRA endorsement for Arkansas Supreme Court: Shawn Womack

It seems like John Goodson has found a way to influence the NRA. I wonder if he pays them?Seems like it is critical to get Goodson on your side if you are a judicial candidate. Not only will you get more donations, you get an NRA endorsement. How depressing for Arkansas.

Re: “Asa Hutchinson: "It's up to Arkansas to stop the Donald Trump show"

I think the Governor is doing the responsible thing here. I'm actually impressed.

Re: “Governor concerned over outside spending in judicial races, stops short of condemning partisan flavor of ads

Good for Asa. He should be concerned. I wish he would have talked more about the political nature of these races as well. There hasn't been enough commentary about Justice Goodson's NRA endorsement. It is a sad day when judges take stances on issues that will likely come before the court in order to gain votes.

Re: “Television ads alone in Supreme Court races now top $1 million

Kemp has stated that he prays every morning to be impartial. I have no problems with that and don't understand why anyone would.

I also think Kemp's response to the dark ads is admirable and adequate. You never heard a peep out of Justice Goodson when dark money was used in the race against Tim Cullen. Where was her outrage then? It was widely believed her husband was behind the dark money in that race. I also suspect John Goodson is behind the dark money in the Womack/Mason race. Goodson's outrage in her ads is ridiculous and hypocritical. I hope the voters see the danger of the Goodson machine and vote to stop her in the bid for Chief Justice.

Re: “Television ads alone in Supreme Court races now top $1 million

I think everyone agrees that the dark money is bad. However, I don't think it should convince anyone to vote for Goodson.

Even her latest ad is deceptive. She knows Kemp has nothing to do with the ads and she knows he has publicly stated he is against them. Even the JCN has stated that neither candidate is involved.

I believe the dark money is from business interests in the state that are terrified by Goodson's strong connection to trial lawyers, particularly her husband. If you have been reading Arkansas Business and Forbes, you will see how John Goodson has become very wealthy from class action lawsuits where the lawyers are the main beneficiary and the companies are forced into settlements many believe are unfair and signed off on by judges that may have John Goodson to thank for their successful elections. If that weren't enough, Justice Goodson has reported accepting large gifts from trial lawyers. I know I know- she reported these gifts. The reporting of the gifts doesn't make me feel much better. I wonder how her supporters would feel if she were given $50,000 in a brown paper bag instead of a $50,000 cruise. Would that be ok as well? Our expectation of judicial ethics in this state have become ridiculously low.

I don't think all these problems are solved if Kemp is elected. Goodson would still be on the court and many others judicial candidates would still look to John Goodson for help in winning their race. However, at least Kemp is interested in reform. Goodson's defeat would signal to the Governor and others that this state is tired of business as usual and motivate the powers that be to roll up their sleeves and get to work on meaningful reform.

Re: “Kemp condemns outside ads attacking his opponent on voter ID issue in Supreme Court race

You are right that I've never commented on this blog or any blog before and that I do have a particular interest in this race. However I'm not anyone's plant. I'm a concerned citizen who is very interested in judicial reform and in the integrity of the court.
