Re: “Mike Ross goes after Asa Hutchinson on minimum wage increase

Higher minimum wage means lower employment. Basic component of any wage is profit. If there isn't profit, there can not be a wage. I know this will come as a shock to most socialists and government employees. If minimum wage is $5.00 and hour, then the employee should be able to make the company or bring value to the company of $10 to $15 during that hour. There are other costs associated with that hourly figure that are born by the business such as 1/2 SS, unemployment, medicaid, etc... And lets not forget Profit. If there is no profit, why would the business be there??? The higher the minimum wage, the more difficult a job is to justify so the business doesn't hire.

It is a shame that Asa or Tom can not articulate this. Every business owner that hires unskilled labor knows this, lives this daily. So now a higher minimum wage causes greater operating costs so the business has to either increase their price, or provide a cheaper product. In both cases the risk is reduced sales and reduced sales means a reduced profit...

Minimum wage should be 50 cents and hour. How many people would work for 50 cents an hour? Doing so would force the owners and management to pay according to their specific business model and according to their needs and the market for their product. Doing so would mean more low skilled jobs.

Remember we are talking about low or no work experience people here. The employee has the responsibility to improve their marketability to the employer and just maybe learn enough to build or buy their own business...
