Re: “Highway robbery: Hutchinson's plan

Our low oil prices will only last for a shot while. OPEC has lowered the price to put the Americans out of businesses. OPEC countries can produce a barrel of oil at the well head for $1.09 the US can do it for $34.00. There has already been over 15,000 layoffs in the US oil industry. So, for short sighted people now is the time to add a Federal Tax increase of $10 a barrel and for states to raise their taxes by $.10 a gallon. So when the American oil has to cut back production and investing in new wells, OPEC will raise the cost of a barrel to $100.00. Then it will hurt. By the way, how are you going to tax electric/hybird cars for their road taxes?

Re: “South Carolina to banish Confederate flag

We need to take a deep breath and think about this before we start wiping things from history. There is already votes to dig up people and move their bodies, people requesting names of cities be changed, all in an effort to erase the memories and symbols of the Confederate period which African-Americans say are hurtful. Is this just another start of a double standard? Like if you are a white person and use the N word, it could cost you dearly but if your a black rapper you can make millions using, even though they have to bleep half of your song on TV. History tell us that slavery was brought to the New World, it was not invented here. The blacks that were brought here against their will, were sold/traded into slavery by other Africans. So, if African-Americans really wanted to show they were working to remove the symbols of hate, instead of embracing the very type of thing they say they hate, they would publicly drop the African and just state they are Americans. Another nice touch would be for them to start a movement to stop slavery in the world. After all, while it did take time, they did get their freedom. The people in Africa are still waiting.

Re: “Arkansas: No. 2 in gun ownership

First, Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws for law abiding citizens and does not prosecute felons with firearms, which by the "weak Federal Laws" is five years, no parole, where ever there is room. Second, the 2nd Amendment has two statements one about militias, which is the right of a free state, and the people's right to keep and bear arms, as used when Kansas was becoming a Territory. If you believe that crime will go away if no one had guns, study history, you will be amazed how people killed people before guns.
