As a public employee who recently had their salary plastered all over the front page of the hometown newspaper, I can't say I like this type of information being make public. In my case, I have another source of income (left to me by my deceased parents) and since the article in the hometown newspaper, I've had rumors and innuendo spread by people who have been asking how I maintain the standard of living I do, without knowing of the other source of income, which is not public information. There is even an extensive topix post about me and my salary which has, as topix usually does, devolved into ugly rumors about my being a "drug kingpin" or a "pornographer".

I would think the salaries of those making above a certain threshold would be fair game, as would those of management or elected status. Run of the mill employees, having all this happen to me, I'd say leave the lower pay scale folks alone. We already have enough to deal with.
