Re: “State historian Lisa Speer resigns, indicates friction with department leadership

There has been no state agency to lose as many senior staff as Heritage under Mrs. Hurst's directorship. The fundamental question is: Why does the governor allow her to stay at the helm? The bad press she continues to bring seems to far outweigh the benefits - that doesn't include the fact that the agency has, by all accounts, extraordinary low morale. Sure, they're 'leaner' because she's following the 'no hire' dictate. Any functionary can say 'no'.
I'd rile every Lost Causer as well as actual Heritage advocates & make the Gov's poor decision here a primary issue.
While I don't agree with much Asa stands for, I've always thought him competent, a bit too competent frankly. This is the exception & as such it's a chink in the armor. It's one to be exploited.

Re: “Group seeks constitutional amendment for casinos and highway funding

Just what the independent highway commission needs, a giant checkbook financed on the back of the poor. This, all the while cars are headed toward automation, we continue to build roads to towns that will inevitably die and we lay down a concrete jungle through downtown Little Rock. How very Arkansas.

Re: “Twitter.com: kicking Trump from the site would 'hamper necessary discussion.'

With this policy Hitler's Twitter is OK but some of his soldiers, not so much.

Re: “Huckabee bashed for comparing Trump to Churchill

I don't know if a man who accused Dale Bumpers of supporting pornography via his NEA support could ever be considered an honorable man. But as governor, Huckabuck did do some (I said some) good things - ARKids, 1/8 cent sales tax support, etc.
But his entitled behavior & his willingness to absolutely say anything for both attention & to make what he thought (usually incorrectly) was a larger point is why I always see him as a charlatan.
This has only gotten worse since he's gotten a small piece of the national spotlight.
When he pleads his case at the property line of the Pearly Gates, I can only suspect he'll make the case of hyperbole. He will believe he's a direct descendant of the great parable teller.
But he does it not for the lesson, he does it for the attention.
It's actually a shame because I think he knows what the right thing is. Like a junkie, he just can't help himself.
But ultimately, that's no excuse.

Re: “Paternalism

No doubt. Everything written above is 1000% correct.
But it's also important to remember that the DG will take any & every opportunity to promote charter schools. TBLR was just an excuse & opportunity. They (Boo) are interested in socially engineering LR's children & education system. It's some sort of segregationist libertarian anti-public school teacher white whale.
And while they are still making bank, they are shrinking - both in size & influence. How that will impact Boo's bottom line & with that his cash outreach to pols & funding charter schools remains unknown. And while I am deeply sorry to see newspapers dwindle, if it ends his fiefdom I'll choose to view that as an upside.
