Re: “Not fit for broadband

I've lived in Witts Springs for 20 years now. When we moved to our new location out in the woods 2 miles from the community there was no land line access; however, neighbors a quarter mile away had land line phone service provided by Alltel. So I called Alltel and said I needed service. They said, "Sure, for $2000 we can pull the line to you.

I talked with some knowing friends after that dialogue with Alltel. One of them said, "Hey, they have a Universal Fund that they collect from each and every customer. Part of that money has to be used for extending rural lines."

So I called Alltel headquarters in Georgia and confirmed this...within 10 days a sub-contractor had pulled the phone line down a power line right of way from my neighbor south of me and we had phone service for about $200 total.

Tell me that Windstream can't do the same with the Universal Fund and the Broadband money?
