Among people who take opioid medications the suicide rate is twice the overdose rate! Think about that! Does that fact suggest an opioid epidemic or a failure to treat pain? People with pain that is severe enough to require opioid medications cost insurance 10 times the cost to care for a similar patient without pain. I would suggest this might be a motivation for the war on opioids.
