Re: “Trooper strikes plea bargain in fatal crash

tzw, note that the ASP Colonel terminated Rhew (as well and the trooper in the situation in NWA that eLwood ignorantly refers to) but was left with no choice but to reinstate him and put him on administrative leave after the ASP Commissioners, or a certain few of them, threatened to reverse the termination. The ASP Commissioners are appointed by the Governor and are pretty untouchable because of their personal wealth and connections. The outcome of a court case are in the hands of prosecutors and judges, not the ASP itself.

Re: “Waltons back 'arts' hotel UPDATE

I just realized it. Modern liberalism and the Democrat Party is based solely on one thing: violating the commandment of "thou shalt not to covet..." Actually, stole that from P.J. O'Rourke, but seems appropriate here.

Re: “The Pulaski school disaster

I would suggest looking at what Chicago did with the 1988 Chicago School Reform Act, the modifications in 1995 giving the mayor the power (and political responsibility) of appointing the school board, and the 2005 changes in the Chicago Teachers Union contract that allowed principals to fire teachers.

And there is a limit to what can be done for those students whose parent or parents just don't give a damn.

There's a reason there are so many expensive private schools in such a small area, and that reason is not racism.

Re: “More free speech for judges UPDATE

couldn't be better, as for the "Missouri system," those judges, as in similar systems, are appointed from individuals "approved" by the bar or other attorney-dominated group. Do you realize how incestuous and one-party the legal community is in this state?

Re: “The line is open

eLwood, glad you cleared that up and that all is smooth with Social Security. That's a relief. I was sort of worried when the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees said this in their public message: "The financial condition of the Social Security and Medicare programs remains challenging. Projected long run program costs are not sustainable under current program parameters." (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/TRSUM/index.html)

Love the new math.

They may have been New Black Panthers. Accordingly, no federal crime could have occurred.

Re: “Justice Corbin has heart attack

Fifth heart attack? Chump-change.

And if he can't finish his term, Bill Bowen is available.
