Re: “With attendance down, 'Great Passion Play' facing closure

Last evening made at least the third time I have attended the play in ES. The first time was in the early 70's when I was around 12 or 13. It was absolutely one of the greatest and most memorable events I had ever attended. In 1980 I attended the play again. In fact it started raining so hard we were offered rain checks but the play was so "great" we stayed. Last evening in comparison to the other two times I attended I was let down. There have definitely been changes. Way too dramatic to the point I felt the actors were "mocking" the greatest story ever told. To a humble christian this was saddening. It was still good and there is a lot of work that has gone onto the play. I thought it needed more actors especially when the Jewish mob was crying out to the governor to let them have 'Jesus' That was a change. The evil spirit was confusing and I felt was a detriment to the play. She did a good job but this story does not need that effect in the context of an amphitheatre setting for this story. It was cold last evening and I wondered why you were showing it this late in the season on such a cold evening. However, I was thankful I was able to attend and I hope to be able to return some other time.
