RIVERDANCE
  • RIVERDANCE
The dance, music and song of Ireland are put on full display with the renowned Riverdance, which will be performed on the Robinson Center Music Hall stage Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 17-19. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. each night, plus a 1 p.m. matinee Wednesday, Jan. 19. Since 1995, when the show debuted, each Riverdance company has been named after an Irish river. The Boyne is the name of the Riverdance company currently touring North America. Named after an Irish goddess, Bóinn, the Boyne River is not much more than a stream at its source, Trinity Well in County Kildare. By the time it reaches the sea at Drogheda, County Louth, the Boyne has widened to 70 meters and flowed past 5,000 years of Irish history. In 1690 the banks of the Boyne witnessed one of the most important battles in Irish history where King William’s victory over the ousted King James II ofEngland marked the beginning of England’s centuries-long domination of Ireland. This tour includes 32 Irish dancers, a five-piece band, three singers, a flamenco firedancer, six members of the Moscow Folk Ballet Co. and two tap dancers. Tickets range from $16 to $54 and are available through Celebrity Attractions (244-8800) or Ticketmaster (975-7575 or www.ticketmaster.com).
