Re: “Arkansas Governor's School: Where are they now?

AGS Class of 93' - Mathematics. I owe it all to Mr. Sam Blair, legend and long-time guidance counselor from LR Central High, who thought I would enjoy it and who helped fill my pre-senior summer with Boys State and then AGS. Boys State was interesting and informative, but my experience at AGS was enlightening. AGS was like all my years of GT, Alpha, and AP classes wrapped up in a mini-college experience. The curriculum under Dr. Bruce Haggard, Director of AGS, was progressive, eye-opening and fantastic. Needless to say, I met so many wonderful, gifted people, both students and faculty alike; I still regard several as close friends. Not a coincidence, one year later I returned to Hendrix College where my renaissance journey continued. After a year of travel-study from Oxford, England, I went on to UAMS. Today, I'm an emergency room physician and try to consider still myself a jack of all trades. Currently, I work too many hours, read too few books, but I am blessed with a loving family. I look back on that summer with fond memories filled with fun and friends and consider it a cornerstone in my life.
