Re: “Another bike/car crash on Cantrell

Irish Nut, what's next in your city of the future a monorail?

The whole point of my initial argument was how much money has already gone to the bike/ walk/ run/ jog/ river trails vs. spending a lot more money when a comparatively small portion of the population can't make a left turn on a bicycle without complaining and campaigning for an additional 5 million dollars. (4 for the west ramp on the BDB and 1 for the cantrell area) All the while the rest of us that want more police officers/ a jail to help control the sky rocketing crime and pay decent salaries for teachers have to pass an additional tax to cover the costs of that.

Perhaps your little trail can take a back seat on the city's expense report for a while and let some other public projects come to fruition.

I guess my point was lost because I fell into some playful wording to get the cyclists all riled up (Citizen1 thanks for getting the joke on the evil part). It is truly amazing how quickly the cyclists get defensive. For example and in closing, I am pretty sure that if I saw a bunch of 35 - 60 year old out of shape white guys wearing football pants while running slowly down the middle of the street together in Hillcrest I would make fun of them too. Btw, 90% of you in those outfits make you look like a can of busted biscuits. It actually is the only thing that I find amusing about road cycling.

SP, I was referring to the hypocrisy of the bikers who quote the phrase and then break the law.

Re: “Another bike/car crash on Cantrell

Sound Policy,

Just heard people shouting "share the road" one too many times before they cut around cars at stop lights and stop signs or ride 5mph in the middle of rush hour traffic on a busy street. I am sure that not all bikers are evil, unlike Citizen1 who is probably very, very evil.

"since last I looked you were not the only one paying taxes," you are really playing the majority card here? How many bikers are there in Little Rock? Enough to justify this?:…

Tourism was not the only reason it was built, but it was definitely one of their selling points.…

I don't see where I stated that the bridges were specifically used for bicycles only so I will not be rebutting that comment at the moment.

"Cities get some of the state taxes turned back into it possibly." - 4.12% of all LR tax dollars are spent on roads. The LR city and Pulaski County sales tax on an item costing an average of $300 (bike) is $22.50. The LR city and Pulaski County sales tax on an item costing an average of $28,400 (car) is $2130. That means that 94.6 bikes need to be sold to collect the same amount in taxes as a car and by the way, I don't think they collect city taxes on bicycle gas either, but I will have to check into that.

One last thing, just because a person doesn't have aspirations of racing through the Alps doesn't mean they don't spend time outdoors. There are other ways to enjoy the outdoors than on a bicycle. I am surprised you don't see the people having fun out of the way of traffic. Especially when you are riding so slow, because I see them all the time when I am idling down the road behind an out of shape biker.

Re: “Another bike/car crash on Cantrell

Yeah, let's throw more money at bike trails in LR. What is the tally up to now? 30 million? Until the city caves under the pressure of all the tourist activity brought in from the bike bridge/ river trail (read; sarcasm) and spends additional money making another portion of the bike trail why don't these bikers do what Raymond said and walk that portion in the grass. Is it because they will not look as cool in there nifty sausage casing outfit?
In my experience bikers are arrogant and take their own safety for granted by making up their own traffic rules as it suits them. Lastly, if you can't ride more than 20 miles and hour stay on paths without cars.
