Re: “To work or not to work in the days of air conditioning when a/c fails

I suppose the boss can make the employees use leave time, but for the sake of transparency and accountability please name the employer. Future prospective employees should have the information.

Re: “'Growing pains' for eStem at UALR

My goodness. I rallied against the charter school explosion as much as anyone, and yet here we are. None of the political wrangling nor the co-location with the university is the fault of the teenagers who go to school there. There sure is a lot of grousing and spitfire over sharing space with the next generation - why not make the best of it? The downtown e-Stem high schoolers flood the River Market daily at lunch hour; exactly the same time as business people like myself go there to eat. Do the youth sometimes talk too loudly and stand awkwardly in groups clogging the walking areas? Yes! Teenagers will do that. What I do is smile and say "excuse me", then move along and try to be thankful that they're there spending money and mingling in society with adults (which eventually they will become themselves.) Have a little patience and an open mind.

Re: “Governor directs Health Department to resume issuing birth certificates under revised procedures

David, my inquiry to ADH got escalated, and I was assisted without trouble once I got to the right person. I appreciate your reaching out to them, and the prompt it served as for me to come back with an update. If others need to go through the process, I think their process will be smoothed out going forward.

Re: “Governor directs Health Department to resume issuing birth certificates under revised procedures

I have waited nearly two years for this, to be able to get my child's birth certificate with any measure of dignity (that is, without the indignity of obtaining a court order identifying myself as a "stepparent" petitioning for "parental" rights). So far, in calling ADH to see what I need to bring, I have been put in endless hold queues and given no information. I hope they hold an emergency meeting and sort out how to implement this, and make it as easy as possible on those of us seeking a correction. I don't wish to wait any longer to put this behind me.

Re: “Springtime in Hillcrest: A no-smoking Fountain Bar in the works

"Those who've been scared off the Fountain"... nevermind the Fountain! I have avoided Canon Grill next door for years, due to the disgusting smell of smoke that seeps over and through the wall from next door at the Fountain. I'm sure the stale odor will linger in those permeated walls for many months to come.

Re: “Murder and the mayor's race

Ivan defines freedom as: having lots of gun violence. How very Wild West. In the converse, making citizens safer from gun deaths is "repression" of "freedom". Should we, then, erect monuments to freedom at sites of mass shootings?

Ivan has basically admitted that looser gun laws do not inhibit or counteract violence, but actually increase gun deaths. Double check your party's talking points, next time.

Re: “Little Rock native to lead Oberlin College

Congratulations, President Ambar. Oberlin College is a wonderful place. One of the best! I'm happy as an Arkansan to think of it as a second home.
