Re: “Chris Beard: Former UALR coach may not stay in Las Vegas

from 70,000 at San Angelo State (DII) to 230,000 at LR to 1mm at UNLV to 2mm+ at Texas Tech - that all happened to a man that has paid his dues in a 13 month period. And he has three teenage daughters that need a relationship with their dad. That is hard enough for a DI head coach but good geography helps a bit. I am so happy for Chris, he will stay there a good while I am sure.

Re: “The Boys State open line

Max, I always enjoy your Boy's State report each year. I cringe at how conservative I was in 1971 when I was Governor and I cringe in 2014 at how liberal I have become. I give most of that credit (it is a good thing) to my wife and daughter, but a good portion of that credit goes to you and others at the AR Times. You have helped me "get it" on many of those issues. Thank you.

Re: “Why, yes, yes I am

Max, I have always enjoyed your writing, but when you write about your childhood and upbringing and the influence of your family, the realness of what you are writing is clear and concise and vivid. My dad was a tremendous influence on me as well.

Re: “Podcast: The grit and Division III football edition

Hendrix just keeps getting better. The Village is a great improvement for the school and the city. Their new facilites are impressive. They have studied the football question diligently. I know some real student athletes here in LR that have gone to Trinity or other DIII schools to have a great academic experience but to play football as well. The AD at Hendrix is a LR Central grad and very capable. They will do well.

Re: “A catfish note

Having grown up in Clarendon, the merits of both places are substantial. Knowing how to woo a woman, I took my wife of 30 years on our second date to the old Murry's. I grew up at the White River Cafe and always stop in whenever I go home for a high school football game. Yes, the fertile crescent, the cradle of civilization where the Tigris and, sorry, I mean the White and the Cache Rivers come together. I really did grow up in paradise!

Re: “Over to you

Max, as a former Governor of AR Boys State it is good to know that you still hang out there. Expand those young minds, it will be good for them.
