The Little Rock Wind Symphony, under Karen Fannin’s direction, presents “A Russian Christmas” on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive. Soprano Joanne McDade will join the symphony, as it presents old Russian classics such as “Festive Overture” by Shostakovich, and “Bogoroditse Devo” by Rachmaninoff, as well as “Dance of the Jesters” by Tchaikovsky and Alfred Reed’s “Russian Christmas Music.” McDade will sing “O Holy Night.”

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. Call 666-0777.

Chamber singers’ holiday

The Arkansas Chamber Singers offer two chances to catch their annual holiday show, which this year is titled “How Far Is It to Bethlehem?” On Friday, Dec. 8, the group will be at First Presbyterian Church, 800 Scott St., beginning at 7:30 p.m. They move across town to Pulaski Heights Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.

The program’s central piece is “In Terra Paz” (On Earth Peace) from the English composer Gerald Finzi. The program also includes the Nigerian carol “Betelehemu.”

Tickets for either show are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Call 377-1121 for information.

Tour the Quarter

The annual Quapaw Quarter homes tour, “Christmas in the Quarter,” will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. The tour begins at the Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church, 1600 Louisiana St., and takes visitors throughout the neighborhood to the Victorian homes that have been restored and decorated top to bottom for Christmas.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under age 12. Call 375-1600 for tickets or more information, or visit www.qqumc.org.

The Historic Arkansas Museum invites eggnog lovers to its Second Ever Nog-off, a friendly competition featuring historic recipes, on Friday, Dec. 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during 2nd Friday Art Night. Take the children to the Little Rock Zoo on Saturday for “Christmas in the Wild,” where Santa will be on hand and the kids can have milk and cookies and get their pictures made with the jolly ol’ elf. Sing along with carolers and make arts and crafts, then help Santa deliver presents to animals in the zoo. There are two seatings, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cost is $12 for nonmembers and $8 for members, and the price includes zoo admission. Call 666-2406 … Rachel Spencer, a graduate of the University of Arkansas, will have two book-signings of “Au Paris: True Tales of an American Nanny in Paris” this weekend. Spencer spent a summer in Paris and wrote a blog from the Houston Chronicle, which became the basis for the book. Spencer will sign at Barnes and Noble in West Little Rock from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and at WordsWorth in the Heights on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
