Re: “Farmer vs. farmer

Followed the link to this article from the NYT article, and discovered this to be the better of the two. This is both a tragic and frightening situation - I can only wonder what is happening to our society! This "me first" attitude, and "to hell with my neighbors" is deeply disturbing, and I can't help but draw comparisons to the professed attitudes of many of today's political leaders. Would Jesus have shot his neighbor for objecting to thr destruction of his property? Is that how the Bible tells us we should treat our neighbors? And for that matter, should corporations and government officials of a certain persuasion (most of whom profess Christianity as their faith) be somehow be considered exempt from Biblical direction? Did Jesus ever say " you, the wealthy, are exempt from the word of God"? Never that I have read in the Bible - people who would betrayed their neighbors, betray their fellow human beings, must have their own Bible...
Jesus spent his time talking about loving our neighbors and about loving our enemies too, in fact - the new American paradigm seems to be all about self-centeredness - about even raising that attitude to the status of a virtue. What is this world coming to?
