Re: “Recognition for stars among Hall High's ESL students

This is the story you never see the state tell. The fact that Hall takes students where they start, sometimes at a 3rd grade level, and moves them up many grades every year. They may not make it to the government's magic 'proficient' mark, but Hall will have turned an illiterate student into a successful, lifelong reader. Many times, this student may not have spoken English at all when they started. THAT, my friends, is success all day long. Kudos to the AR Times for showing the success. These teachers and kids are successful and it's so demoralizing to be told you're a failure over and over by a state department that seems to be fumbling aimlessly themselves.

Re: “Hearing underway on Little Rock School District; department recommends state intervention

Pulaski County was taken over for fiscal reasons, not academic. Comparing the two schools is apple and oranges.
