Re: “The Broom Man, Melvin Pickens, dies at 84

Our good friend Melvin Pickens "The Broom Man" is going to be remembered on THV ch 11 news tonight at 5 and 6pm

Some people may remember James Howard who was about 20 years older than
Melvin Pickens. In 1983 when I started working at Little Rock Broom Works,
James would come by the factory about once a month to buy brooms and Melvin
would come about once a day.

We had some brooms that were discounted a lot because they had scratches on
the handles and Melvin called these CHEAP BROOMS and he loved to buy them.
I went on a sales trip back around 1990 and was gone about a week. When I
got back Melvin came to factory and asked for some of the CHEAP BROOMS and
I told him that we had several dozen, but when I went to get them they were
gone. I told Melvin that James Howard must have bought them. Melvin
replied, "If Jim Howard came back from the dead and got those then I don't
want to come around here again!!!!"

That became a running joke with us. Anytime he asked for CHEAP BROOMS I
would respond, "I am sure we have some unless Mr. Howard bought them

Melvin loved baseball and was a big Los Angeles Dodger fan. Anybody know
why he loved the Dodgers? (Hint: Melvin became a fan during his sophomore
year in high school.)

Re: “The Jack Jones, Marcel Williams execution thread

Vanessa are you taking up for Bill Clinton by saying:

Saline - Yes, there are people who deserve the death penalty, and Simmons was one of them. None of those on the state's death list (this weeks executions) even come close to being in the same category.

In other words, those that Bill Clinton executed deserved it and these don't? Remember the name Ricky Ray Rector?

I respect Bill Clinton for being pragmatic and for working with the Republicans in the 1990's on Welfare Reform and cutting spending in order to balance the budget. Evidently he also thought it was wise to execute murderers who fell under the instructions that the Bible gives to wise leaders in government concerning justice (an eye for an eye.).

Re: “The Jack Jones, Marcel Williams execution thread

Olphart said, "I'm not against the death penalty if guilt is 100% certain. I do feel that I'd be a better person if I were against it, though. I am torn by the unequal application of capital punishment in the past and by the ability of someone with a lot of money to avoid it, even now.

But Saline brings up a good point. There are certain people who, IMO, deserve to die and, indeed, in many cases, want to die. Ronald Gene Simmons is a good example. Anybody can easily Google such cases. Do you think Dylann Roof should be executed? Did Timothy McVeigh deserve to die? How about Dzhokhar Tsarnaev? Does he deserve it?"

Bill Clinton was a confirmed anti-Capitol punishment person UNTIL he spent time working with real people in the criminal justice system and he saw the wisdom of it.Evidently. at least in part OLPHART you see where he was coming from on Simmons! BTW thanks for the compliment. I did not expect it.

Re: “The Jack Jones, Marcel Williams execution thread

Bill Clinton was responsible for allowing several executions as Guv and even you liberals on here CAN'T come up with ANY good reasons for opposing Ronald Gene Simmons execution in 1990 can you?

Re: “Brad Bolding, fired in NLR in 2015, to take over at Parkview High in LRSD

Wannabe conservative says:

"Guess it's turning into somebody's little playground to see what they can get away. But I guess winning trumps all. Regardless of how you do it."

When coaches cheat and recruit the smart ones don't use checks that can be traced back to them!!!

I was told several years ago that Brad was meeting players in the Central High parking lot and then they would end up transferring to NLR the next year.

Unfortunately for my Bryant Hornets Brad had his eye on KJ Hill who was the best 10th grade football and basketball player who ever put on a Hornet uniform.

Unfortunately, for Brad he failed to pay off in cash that time and he was ultimately fired over it. Also KJ was responsible for eliminately the Hornets from the football playoffs the next year.

The truly MOST TRAGIC event was the fact that the NLR basketball team had to forfeit 2 basketball state championships when KJ was NOT the reason they earned them originally. Thanks a lot BRAD!!!!

I pulled for Parkview when they had that great team with Keith Jackson and Ricky Williams and I would love for Hall and Parkview to return to their former greatness but what are you teaching young men about character when you bring in a coach like this?

Re: “Early voting begins in Arkansas

Cato said

Early voters in my area (Polk County) see long lines and waiting. Wasn't all that bad. Guessing everyone is like me having the feeling to get it over with. But if any indication, there will be a big turn out in Arkansas.

Maybe huge vote is trump's army!!

The only problem is that he be too far behind!!!
