Re: “Medal of Honor recipient Nick Bacon dies

Nicky was my second cousin and very close to my beloved grandfather, the last living uncle of all the original Bacon brothers and one sister, therefore they were very close. We are part of the Houston Bacon Clan. My grandparents went to be with the Lord a few years ago and I know there was a great Bacon party to welcome him into Heaven. My childhood and grownup memories of Nicky coming to visit was always more exciting than the circus coming to town. The Houston Bacon's would prepare with such excitement. My grandma, his last living aunt at the time, would start cooking days ahead of time and always all his favorite southern cooking. We would sit around in my grandparent's garage and listen to him talk for hours and never get tired. Even as a young child I knew he was special. He treated the youngest of us to the oldest of us with importance. He was not only a hero to our country, but to the whole extended Bacon Family. His story will be passed down to my children and grandchildren. I will always treasure those visits and the whole family getting together to celebrate. It truely seems like an end of an Era in our family here.
As my, husband, a West Point Graduate, said in the words of MacArthur,"Old soldiers never die they just fade away."
Love and condolences to the family. Your first cousins, my mom and uncles, from Houston are heading that way to say goodbye for now!!
